About the Writer
Hello, my name is Dan. Let me tell you a few things about me so you can decide whether or not I am worth listening to.
I am one of those modern American spiritual people who hate the word spiritual, seeking a way to reconcile the nihilism that western philosophy has arrived at with a desire to lead a good and meaningful life in a culture that actively discourages it.
I have a job that involves getting up in the morning, driving in my car to a different nearby city, sitting at a desk that has a computer and piles of paper on it, then, after one unit of “work day” has passed, reversing the process.
I play music for fun and occasionally for profit and it is one of my greatest joys in life.
I think that in order for the human species to survive, we need to learn to view ourselves in the context of the world around us. I suppose that makes me an environmentalist, though “-ists” make me nervous because that tends to preclude thinking.
I frequently get very grumpy and forget the interconnectedness of all things and think that the world is a stupid place, especially when I don’t get enough sleep. Anything I write here is as much for my practice as anything else.
That was five paragraphs in a row that started with the word “I”. Which really seems excessive.
